Midrand at a glance

About Midrand

Midrand, as its original name of Halfway House implies, is a thriving and fast developing hub of residential and commercial properties and interests based halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria along the N1 Western Bypass.

With large corporates establishing their headquarters here, employment opportunities are plentiful. This, coupled with the calm, relaxing lifestyle, the modern upmarket developments with their state-of-the-art-security systems and the variety of entertainment amenities, is attracting young professionals and families to live and buy here.

Midrand which only became a municipality in 1981 is one of the prolific growing areas in South Africa. It comprises numerous suburbs of which Kyalami is one of its more prominent.

About Kyalami

Kyalami is a highly desirable residential suburb not only for its country feel and large housing developments but also for its easy access to the N1 Western Bypass.

Kyalami was originally an area comprising small-holdings and open farmland much loved by the horsey fraternity where they could ride and exercise their horses. However, urban expansion has seen the recent upsurge of high-end sumptuous homes in the area; now a diverse mix of modern, highly secure lifestyle and housing estates, housing complexes, apartments, farms and small holdings.

However, Kyalami, which is also famous for its racing track, the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, still retains its reputation as a centre for equestrian activities.

Schooling

Local reputable education centres are: Kyalami Estates Pre-Primary (http://www.kepp.co.za/);

Kyalami Preparatory School (https://kyalamiprep.co.za/); or just a short distance away are the private co-educational facilities of Beaulieu Preparatory School (https://beaulieuprep.org/); Beaulieu College (https://www.beaulieucollege.org/); Reddam House (http://reddamhouse.com/) or the Lonehill Crawford schools.

Medical Care

Besides its local GPs and small medical centres and clinics, Kyalami offers the following medical services:

For health and wellness: Midrand Medical Centre (https://www.midrandmedicalcentre.net/).

For a multi-disciplinary healthcare facility: Netcare Waterfall City Hospital (https://www.netcarehospitals.co.za/Hospital/Netcare-Waterfall-City-Hospital

Lifestyle

Kyalami still enjoys a relaxed, countrified lifestyle inspite of its increasing commercial and residential development.  It is also very much horsey territory with its many stables, riding schools and equestrian events. But it is busier and trendier with more younger, go-getter residents who revel in the variety of entertainment options, such as:

Golfers: Have a round of golf or two at the imposing Kyalami Country Club before or after enjoying a "from breakfast to dinner and all in between" meal at the Clubhouse restaurant. (https://www.kyalamigolf.co.za/)

Adventure seeker: See the website for the latest scheduled events and races at the renowned Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. This racing track used to host the Grand Prix and Formula One races and has hosted the South African Grand Prix a few times. Be thrilled and excited by the Circuit's events which include bikes as well as cars.

For a unique and not-to-be-missed experience: Spend an enchanting 1 hour, from 10h30, on a Sunday morning captivated by the South African Lipizzaners as they perform their stunning dressage in statuesque style. These Lipizzaners are "the only performing Lipizzaners outside Vienna recognised by and affiliated to the Spanish Riding School".. Don't miss this special and unique show! For Market Lovers:

On the first Saturday of each month, visit the Midrand Urban Market, which, with its children's entertainment play area, hand-made items and abundance of food stalls, provides an ideal outdoor outing for the whole family. https://www.sa-venues.com/things-to-do/gauteng/visit-the-midrand-urban-market/

On Sundays, the Waterfall Market, based  at the beautiful Waterfall Park in front of the Mall of Africa is currently becoming the family go-to market in Johannesburg. Its green, park-like outdoor setting and the diverse range of products and edibles are attractive to all.

Measures are taken to ensure that all products are either handmade, grown by, or baked by, the vendors themselves. Focus is on being environmentally friendly so visitors are requested to bring their own shopping bags or baskets, and coffee cups. https://www.sa-venues.com/things-to-do/gauteng/waterfall-market/

Shopping and Business Centres

Several shopping malls have opened their doors in recent years such as the modern, spacious Kyalami Corner Shopping Mall with its ample parking and Virgin Active Gym (https://www.kyalamicorner.co.za/) and the open-air centre, Kyalami On Main, which is ideally situated for commuter users of the busy Woodmead Main Road (http://www.kyalamionmain.co.za/).

However, the most notable and recent attraction is the huge, eye-catching Mall of Africa, famous for being the largest mall ever built in one phase. It houses over 300 shops with a diverse range of local brands as well as flagship stores and international brands (https://mallofafrica.co.za/).

Locally, there is the Waterfall Office Park (http://waterfallofficepark.co.za/), situated next to The Mall of Africa and the CBD of Midrand is also within easy reach, as is that of Sandton.
