She drives you nuts, but she’s still your go-to person when you are excited, sad, worried, or need some advice (or food). Your mom is the original BFF, and still stands her ground easily against everyone else for all of these reasons… and more!
1. She genuinely cares about what you’re doing with your life
No one wants to see you succeed more than Mom - she’s always dreamed big for you, and has no ulterior motive to wanting you to win at life. Even when she’s being annoying, it’s only because she is just out for your genuine happiness (and maybe bragging rights).
2. She always comes to your defense
When you were younger, maybe this meant fighting your school principal for not understanding your form of “creative expression” during class. Now, she even offers to talk to your boss after a bad day at work. Even though you would never actually consider it, it’s nice to have Mom in your corner!
3. She’ll always give you the benefit of the doubt
Those murderers on Crime and Investigation channel? Their moms STILL think they are innocent!
4. She’ll always try to “get it,” even when she doesn’t
You can’t fault Mom for being older and a little out-of-touch with your generation (despite her protests that she’s on Facebook and knows how to text). In fact, her old-school attitude is what keeps you grounded when you’re dating the wrong guy. She might not fully understand it or support it, but she still always tries to give you the best advice and see your point of view.
5. She makes you feel special
She’ll keep you on the phone for hours just to listen to the most trivial parts of your day. She’ll take the time to stock up on your favourite snacks when you’re only coming home for a night. She pretends to gripe but will iron your lucky work shirt. And, of course, she’s been telling you that you were number one every single day since nappies!
6. She is more excited about your birthday than her own
You might have been the one being born, but never forget who got you there! Your birthday doubles as the best moment in her life, so naturally she’s going to celebrate it too.
7. She’s the only person who knows how to shop for you
Mom was the first celebrity in your eyes. Her style has influenced your own because her closet was the first you ever raided (regardless of gender, you know you tried on Mom’s heels at least once). Now, she’s the only woman in your life who buys you exactly what you want — even if it’s some extra toilet paper or a baking dish.
8. She was with you every single time you did something stupid
If only because Mom was your first phone call to get you out of trouble!
9. She’s seen it ALL
From your most embarrassing moments (which she’s never told a soul) to taking care of you when you’re grossly sick, you can really do anything in front of her and she won’t love you any less.
10. She won’t judge you for wearing your pajamas all day
She still thinks you’re gorgeous! Plus she is always sympathetic and allows you down time. But she’ll make sure you change them before you get back into bed, and motivate you to get up bigger and better tomorrow.
11. She wants to know the bad news, too… and try to fix it
Mom is like a detective — she’ll figure out what’s wrong no matter how many times you tell her that “it’s nothing.” And even when you irrationally take it out on her, she’ll still hear you out and offer up a genuine solution. She never gets tired of listening patiently to your problems, big or small, then will give you some tough-love truth that no one else will. As an added bonus, she still loves you whether you are stupid, grouchy, or just plain wrong.
12. She loves to listen to you brag
Besides maybe your grandmother (who also kind of counts), your mom is the only person who genuinely likes to hear about your accomplishments and won’t secretly hate you for them. Even if it’s something as small as, “I made my own dinner today!” Mom wants to know about it and will be proud of you.
Plus, if nothing else, you have half of her genes. To Mom, this means that she is directly responsible for your awesomeness.
