Here, we explore the major suburb of Fourways with our area expert and property practitioner, Tracy Thompson.

Fourways at a glance

Known as one of Johannesburg's fastest-growing suburbs and commercial areas, it's clear that Fourways was built with a goal and dream in mind. The area itself is essentially made up of a further eight suburbs and three exceptional lifestyle estates that are renowned throughout the province.

These include the suburbs of Magaliessig, Norscot, Fourways, Lonehill, Beverly, Norscot Slopes, Craigavon, and Broadacres. The three exceptional lifestyle estates include Dainfern, Fernbrook Estate, and Cedar Lakes.

Fourways through the ages

Located in the affluent Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg, Fourways is a resplendent and well-sought after area that boasts temperate weather and convenient access to sophisticated shopping experiences through an abundance of complexes and malls.

While Fourways is vastly recognised as a commercial and residential hub, its humble beginnings tell a different story. When first planned out, Fourways was nothing more than a small farm holding an animal reserve established by the Erikson Family circa 1940. The original location of this area had a splendid mansion known as Norscot Manor. It wasn't until 1970 that this well-regarded manor was sold to the local council now known as Norscot.

To this day, the manor remains a titular attraction that paved the way for Fourway's contemporary identity. Today, the manor serves the general public as a tourist attraction with multiple outlets including a library and history gallery.
